In recent years, with the continuous improvement of product quality requirements in high-end foundry and special steel smelting, low-sulfur, low-nitrogen graphitized petroleum coke, as a core auxiliary material in the smelting process, is becoming a key material for quality improvement and upgrading in the industry due to its excellent carbon-enhancing performance and purity.
Low-sulfur, low-nitrogen graphitized petroleum coke is produced by ultra-high temperature graphitization treatment of high-quality sponge coke at 2800℃ to 3000℃ in an Atchison graphitization furnace. This process can greatly reduce the ash content, volatile matter, sulfur content, nitrogen content, and other harmful elements in the raw materials, while significantly increasing its fixed carbon content. After deep graphitization processing, the material possesses significant characteristics such as high carbon content and extremely low ash and impurities. This top-tier advanced carbon raiser boasts a fixed carbon content of 98.5% or even 99% or higher, while sulfur content is strictly controlled between 0.03% and 0.05%, and nitrogen content is precisely and stably maintained within an extremely low range of 150 PPM to 250 PPM. During the smelting process, this high-purity carbon raiser readily integrates into molten iron or steel, achieving an absorption rate exceeding 92%. Its excellent and rapid carbon raising effect makes it the preferred carbon raiser for high-end ductile iron casting and the smelting of special steels.
In practical applications, low-sulfur, low-nitrogen graphitized petroleum coke is widely used in gray cast iron and high-end ductile iron casting, special steel production, and automotive parts manufacturing. Due to its extremely low impurities and abundant graphite nuclei, it effectively improves the microstructure of castings, enhances the hardness and wear resistance of steel, thereby helping downstream enterprises improve the yield and mechanical properties of high-end castings. Currently, major domestic steel groups and leading carbon companies have actively entered the high-end carbon raiser market.
In the future, as the casting and steel industries continue to transform towards high-precision and cutting-edge fields, low-sulfur and low-nitrogen graphitized petroleum coke will not only exist as a carbon-enhancing material, but will also become a core force driving the improvement of the quality of high-end manufactured products. Adhering to a green and high-quality development path and increasing the research and application of high-end carbon-enhancing materials is undoubtedly the only way for China's casting and steelmaking industries to achieve high-quality development.
